Every photographer has a unique way of seeing the world. From the way they use natural light to the colors they gravitate toward, the way they pose or interact with families, and even the way they edit your final images—every part of the process contributes to their artistic style.

That’s why it’s so important to appreciate and trust your photographer’s vision.

Your Photographer’s Editing Style Is Part of Their Art

Editing isn’t simply a technical step that happens after your session. It’s a huge part of a photographer’s creative process.

Some photographers love dark and moody images. Others create bright, colorful photographs. Some prefer warm tones, while others gravitate toward cool, true-to-life colors. Some photographers have a very clean and minimal editing style, while others create something more dramatic and artistic.

None of these styles are necessarily better than another. They’re simply different.

For me, my editing style is a part of my brand and the experience I want my clients to have. I want my images to feel timeless, bright, light, soft, and true to the way the moment felt.

When you look through my portfolio, you’re seeing the style I have intentionally created over years of learning, practicing, experimenting, and refining my craft.

What You See Is What You’ll Receive

One of the best ways to make sure you’ll love your photographs is to spend time looking through a photographer’s portfolio before booking.

Pay attention to the things you love about their work.

Do you love the way they use light?
Do you love their skin tones?
Do you love the colors?
Do you love how natural their families look?
Do you love the overall feeling of their images?

If the answer is yes, you’ve probably found a photographer whose artistic vision aligns with yours.

Your photographer’s portfolio is essentially a preview of what your gallery will look like.

That’s why it can be difficult when a client loves a photographer’s work but then asks for their images to be edited completely differently. For example, asking for darker tones, completely different colors, heavy filters, or a style that looks like another photographer’s work.

At that point, the request isn’t really about making a small adjustment—it’s asking the artist to create something outside of their established style and consistency is one of the main goals for a photographer.

It’s Okay If My Style Isn’t Your Style

And here’s the most important part: that’s completely okay.

Not every photographer is going to be the right fit for every person.

And I would never be offended if you decided another photographer was a better fit for your vision.

In fact, I want you to choose the photographer whose work makes you excited to have your own photographs hanging on your walls.

There are so many incredibly talented photographers, and each one brings something different to the table. Finding the right fit means finding someone whose artistic style matches what you envision for your family.

Trust the Artist You Hired

Your photographs should feel like you, but they should also feel like the work of the photographer you chose.
